Jazz

I am exited for the new jazz unit that is coming up. Last year we did jazz, but only for a little bit. A lot of the warm ups we have been doing incorporate jazz, such as the warm up with the plie, or the warm up with the chest isolation. Jazz music has a lot of improvisation, and I think jazz dance might be similar. For example, in the warm up with the plie, you can swing your leg different lengths.

A Case of You

https://vimeo.com/134656119

This is a video of a duet preformed by a man and women. I think it is really interesting how they either mimic each others  movements, or their movements fit with each other very well. It is really cool when they run at each other and catch each other. That seems really hard to do. This dance reminds me of our muscle dance. The part where the lady runs and jumps and the man catches her is like the part in our dance where each group does a different kind of jump. The part where the women pushes the man down is similar to when we lie on the floor and then raise back up on one arm.

Muscle Dance

In dance class we are learning a new dance about muscles. It is very different from the earlier dance we did on bones. This one is more slow and relaxing while the other one was much more fast and upbeat. The music that we are using for the dances are also very different. The music we are using for the muscle dance is sang slowly, while the music used for the bone dance was fast, and it didn't even have any words. This is also similar to the differences between muscles and bones.
